Simple ways to keep your hair protected in the cold winter months

Hello everyone, we all know how important it is to keep our hair healthy all year long. But there is something about those winter months that makes it easy to fall off of our hair care routine. So I wanted to share a few important practices to continue throughout theses months.

1.) Hydrate!! Hydrate!! Hydrate!! Drinking water is just as important during the hot weather as it is during the cold. Drink plenty of water to keep your body, including your hair, hydrated from the inside out. So Drink Up!

Combat hair dryness by using a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner to keep those strands and locs hydrated.

2.) Limit heat styling by reducing the use of heat styling tools. This will prevent additional dryness and damage during the colder months.

3.) Cover up! Wear a hat with satin or silk lining to protect your hair from drying out, harsh winds and cold temperatures which can lead to hair breakage.

4.) Regular trims will keep your hair healthy by eliminating split ends and preventing further damage.

5.) Deep conditioning treatment is a must!! My clients know how important this step is to me. One thing I tell my client’s when booking an appointment with me, make sure you are free for the day. I will not rush this process. Treating your hair to deep conditioning treatments will help restore moisture and maintain hair vitality. At BChilds Studios we do incorporate steam during this relaxing renewing time and for some reason everyone falls asleep in my chair during this process. Book your experience today!

6.) Avoid hot water when washing your hair. Instead, wash your hair with cool, lukewarm to prevent stripping hair of natural oils.

7.) Use leave in conditioners to provide ongoing moisture and protection throughout the day.

8.) This is the perfect time to wear your hair in protective styles, such as braids or buns to shield your hair from the winter elements.

9.) Silk or Satin pillowcases only! If you haven’t already made the switch, do so today. This will reduce friction and minimize hair breakage while sleeping.

10.) You Got This!!

Don’t forget to check in. Let me know if there is anything you have added to your daily hair routine that has a made a difference for you. I hope this helps. Until next time, keep those tresses fabulous!!
